In Hungary you dive in Budapest itself. The Molnár János cave is a thermal cave beneath the city with warm water near the entrance, and the Kőbánya cellar system is a flooded network of old cellars. Both are guided dives only.

Good to know
- Of the natural underwater caves, only the Molnár János cave is open to visiting divers, and only through MJ Cave. Other caves, such as at Hévíz, Tapolca and Jósvafő, are for research teams.
- For the Molnár János cave you need your certification cards (cave, gas, CCR unit, drysuit, DPV where relevant), cave-diving insurance and a medical certificate from a physician.
- The water in the Molnár János cave is 28 °C to -10 m and about 18–20 °C deeper; outside zone 1 a drysuit is mandatory. Kőbánya is 8–14 °C.
- At Kőbánya you dive guided through one of the local dive centres. The Park well is also open to OWD/AOWD; the other three wells need a cave card.
Tips for safe and enjoyable diving
- Book the Molnár János cave well in advance by email.
- Gas: MJ Cave fills air and EAN32 and charges oxygen and helium per litre for trimix. You can rent or buy sofnolime, twinsets, stages and scooters there.
- Emergency: call 112. The hyperbaric chamber is in Esztergom, about 1 hour's drive; whether it is available 24/7 is not known, so call 112 first.
- Rest day: go to one of Budapest's thermal baths (the Lukács bath is right by the cave), take a dry tour of the Kőbánya cellars or do the boat trip through the Tapolca Lake Cave.
Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training.
