The dive
Between rocks and drop-offs you swim into a large hall where daylight falls through arches and openings like through church windows, which gives the site its name.
Profile and sections
Between rocks and drop-offs you swim into a large hall where daylight falls through arches and openings like through church windows, which gives the site its name. Gorgonians and black coral grow under the vault, and many fish swim and shelter in its passages. There are caves, arches and a chimney.
SeaUrchin Diving Center calls it the most famous dive site in Mauritius.
Practical: the site is about five minutes by boat from the port of Flic en Flac and can be dived all year, in water of 22–28 °C.
- Depth and profile
- Plan for 30 m: Le Figaro Nautisme (2015) puts the cave entrance at 30 m. Per dive.site and Edelweiss the dive starts around 18 m and goes to nearly 30 m; SeaUrchin gives 28 m.
- Configuration
- A daylit cavern, guided: recreational gear with a torch (estimate).
Who can dive where
- At least Cavern
- Configurations: Backmount / twinset / Sidemount / CCR / Small cylinders / no-mount (speleo sumps)
- Goes down to 30 m (trimix or deco may be needed)
