The dive

You swim into the cave through a wide entrance at -22 m. Just inside you look up at an opening of about 3 m to the surface above, which makes fine light effects; then comes a second, dark chamber.

The second chamber is dark, beyond the daylight zone: only with overhead/cave training, lights and a line.
Profile and sections

You swim into the cave through a wide entrance at -22 m. Just inside you look up at an opening of about 3 m to the surface above, which makes fine light effects; then comes a second, dark chamber. Inside you see tube anemones (Cerianthus) in every colour and a conger eel that lives there. Back to the boat you follow a wall full of life.

According to the dive centre a legendary sea serpent lived here.

Practical: Scuba Diving Otranto calls the cave simple and, thanks to its width and height, doable with little experience. Because the second chamber is dark, we go by an intro-to-cave card.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (the Onorato, Denitto & Belmonte 1999 inventory in Thalassia Salentina, dive-centre and dive-site descriptions, Wikipedia, regional park laws, ISPRA/AMP documents, the SIMSI list of hyperbaric chambers; Sept 2026). Pins come from that inventory's coordinates (1″ precision, datum not stated): allow ±100–200 m. ~ = estimate. Rules change — check locally.
