The dive

A tall, wide entrance in the limestone leads you into a cavern that narrows towards a ledge known as the 'pulpit'. Shafts of light fall into the space.

Swell and current can make the cavern tricky; the operator only dives it when the weather allows. The chimney is narrow: follow your guide.
Profile and sections

A tall, wide entrance in the limestone leads you into a cavern that narrows towards a ledge known as the 'pulpit'. Shafts of light fall into the space. Above the pulpit a narrow chimney rises to the surface: you can come up in a rock pool and then swim back out along the coral-covered reef wall.

Practical: Big Blue Vanuatu in Port Vila includes it in its diving; whether it goes ahead depends on the weather.

Depth and profile
Plan for 28 m: that is how deep part of the cavern goes according to the tourism office and Divernet (TravelOnline gives 26 m). The entrance is at ~22 m on sand; a chimney leads up to the surface.
Configuration
A tall, narrow cavern with a chimney: recreational gear with a torch, within your no-deco time (estimate).

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the Vanuatu Tourism Office (diving guides for Vanuatu, Efate and Santo), Diveplanit on Big Blue Vanuatu, Divernet (2023 and 2024), Lonely Planet (2024), TravelOnline, Dive Worldwide, PADI, showcaves.com, Richard Harris's expedition report (2005), noonsite (2023), Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine (2006) and Outremers360 (2024). The dive operators' own websites could not be opened. Only Matevulu Blue Hole has coordinates from a source. The sea sites are guided boat dives into caverns and tunnels; certification and configurations are estimates.
