Two large caverns lie close together in the slope.
Profile and sections
Two large caverns lie close together in the slope. In the first you follow a long corridor to a large chamber, where the backlight in the dark space is striking; the walls are colourful with starfish, nudibranchs, fan worms and narwal shrimp. On the way to the second, slightly smaller cavern you pass the wreck of a small metal vessel. Along the wall Dive Azores reports eagle rays, dusky groupers and pelagic fish.
Because the two caverns are so close, you can see both in one dive.
Practical: Dive Azores goes there from Horta marina. The site lies in the Monte da Guia marine reserve.
- Depth and profile
- Plan for 40 m: Dive Azores gives 5–40 m for the steep wall. The tourism board gives max 30 m (average 24 m): two caverns 50 m apart, both with the entrance at 20 m, and a small wreck at 24 m between them.
- Configuration
- A long corridor less than 2 m wide to a large chamber: backmount and sidemount (estimate).
- DPV: Not DPV-suitable (estimate)
- Two short caverns — not a scooter dive.
