Other people's footage, not advice: how someone else dives here says nothing about what suits your team. Dive within your training.
The dive
A cave that rises steeply, with brown meagre (corvine, Sciaena umbra) and large submerged stalagmites, the 'monaci sommersi'.
Profile and sections
A cave that rises steeply, with brown meagre (corvine, Sciaena umbra) and large submerged stalagmites, the 'monaci sommersi'. Past the atrium you rise to the left or right to a first level usually home to the corvine and yellow-orange shrimp (Stenopus spinosus). A few metres higher stand massive stalagmites like the dry ones of the Grotta dei Monaci, and a niche in the wall holds small columns. At the top you surface in an air pocket with a high vault, helictites and alabaster-like flowstone. Along the coast by the entrance you see shoals of two-banded sea bream and curious dentex, and some red coral grows in the gully in front of the entrance.
Practical: Palinuro Sub dives the cave and states no required certification; the level on this page is an estimate. Not to be confused with the Grotta delle Corvine in Salento.
- Depth and profile
- Two entrances: the deep one at -20 m, the upper one at -7 m. Inside you rise to an air pocket; you leave through a straight, oblique tunnel of ~10 m that comes out on the wall at -7 m. Right in front of the entrance a gully drops to -45 m; the wall in front is dived between -18 and -40 m.
- Configuration
- Passage sizes not published: ask the centre which configuration fits.
- DPV: Not DPV-suitable (estimate)

- Configurations: Backmount / twinset / Sidemount / CCR / Small cylinders / no-mount (speleo sumps)
