Norway
1 region · 3 sites · down to 135 m
In Norway you dive the marble karst of Rana in Nordland, just below the Arctic Circle. Pluragrotta and Steinugleflåget go deeper than 130 m, with icy and extremely clear water. Everything revolves around the Plura Valley dive centre, which also owns the land.

Regions
Good to know
- Pluragrotta and Steinugleflåget are on private land of the Jordbru farm, whose owners run Plura Valley. Check in beforehand; parking and the private road cost €50 per diver per day if you're not staying at Plura Valley. For Litjåga, ask permission to use the private road.
- Plura Valley has its own safety rules: no solo diving, nothing beyond your certification or experience, at least 3 lights, helium deeper than -39 m, CCR only with CCR cave and unit certification, OC bailout from the furthest point, and permanent lines changed only in consultation.
- After an accident in 2014 a temporary access ban applied; it was lifted on 31 March 2014. Diving is allowed today via Plura Valley.
- The water is 1–7 °C (warmest in August), with visibility usually 30–50 m and up to about 100 m in winter. In winter the pool freezes and a hole is cut: drysuit with heating.
Tips for safe and enjoyable diving
- Plura Valley is open all year; peak seasons are March–April and July–September. Visibility drops after heavy rain or during snowmelt. Ask Plura Valley about current conditions.
- The road from Mo i Rana is ~36 km, the last ~5 km rough gravel; snow can lie until June and night frost can come as early as August. There is no mobile coverage at the cave.
- Gas: Plura Valley fills air, nitrox, trimix, O₂ and argon and rents OC, sidemount and CCR equipment.
- Emergency: call 113 (medical) and ask for the on-call diving physician ('dykkerlege'); 112 is the police. The nearest chamber is in Tromsø, ~410 km in a straight line: dive conservatively.
- Rest day: Jordbrugrotta, 3.5 km upstream in Plurdalen, is a wild cave with a lot of water — only with caving experience and the right gear.
Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training.
