In Poland cave diving means flooded mines in the Sudetes, in Lower Silesia. The best known is the uranium mine of Kowary, with a ~244 m shaft, but recreational dives there are suspended until further notice, and at Maria Concordia near Sobótka no diving is known since the 2021 accident. We found no natural caves open to recreational cave divers, so for now Poland is a country to keep an eye on rather than one to plan.

Good to know

  • The mines are private: without an arrangement with the owner you don't dive there.

Tips for safe and enjoyable diving

  • Recreational dives in Kowary are suspended until further notice: check with the mine beforehand whether that has changed. Arrange your own gas: we found no public trimix fill station.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training.
