The dive

The Punta Francés caves are tunnels through the reef wall: you come out lower on the wall, so the exit lies deeper than the entrance. The sources (1999 and 2015) give visibility of 27–30 m and water of ~27 °C.

The exits lie at 35–45 m, at the legal limit of 40 m and without deco: plan the dive with the centre and watch your depth.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the Cuban diving regulation Resolución 48/2014 (FAOLEX), showcaves.com, dive.site, Wikipedia, Prensa Latina (2024), CubaPLUS, a Varadero travel guide, a Scubaverse report on the caves near Gibara (2015), an Undercurrent report on Punta Francés (1999), the Marina Marlin Cayo Largo page, the UK FCDO and US State Department travel advice, AP and Al Jazeera (fuel and power, 2026), Rough Guides (Isla de la Juventud). Only Cueva de los Peces has a pin (showcaves). Diving in Cuba is always guided and the law allows no more than cavern diving; check everything with the dive centre.
