The dive

Visibility is up to 40 m and silt is no problem; the water is ~14 °C. You see many eels, and large formations in the last chamber.

Rockfall at the end: in the last chamber a rockfall has buried the line under tons of debris, and debris and broken stalactites block the way on. Kefalonia is an earthquake area.
Profile and sections

Visibility is up to 40 m and silt is no problem; the water is ~14 °C. You see many eels, and large formations in the last chamber. The cave runs under a church, the main road and part of the village, with only a few metres of rock above it. Martyn Farr called it 'one of the best recreational cave-dives in Europe'.

This brackish karst spring brings the water of the Argostoli sinkholes, ~15 km further west, back to the surface (dye test 1963). It is a geosite of the Kefalonia-Ithaca UNESCO Geopark and was dived by Greek teams in 2017, 2018 and 2021.

Depth and profile
Sump of ~240–260 m, average -7 m, max -15 m (Addicted2H2O) to -18 m (Grafas). Just inside the entrance two small side caves; at ~130 m the first large chamber, ~70 m further a second, ending in a small chamber with air. According to Martyn Farr the passage is mostly ~20 m wide and nearly as high; Grafas reports two large air chambers.
Intro level
The passage to the first large chamber at ~130 m: a single wide passage at an average depth of 7 m.
Configuration
Wide, shallow passage: all configurations.
DPV: Not DPV-suitable (estimate)
Short cave (~250 m): no scooter needed.

This is how the planner decides who in your team may dive this cave. Rules your own trip adds (organizer, a mail, the AI) show with your trip.

How to get there

In the village of Karavomilos, 2.5 km north-west of Sami: a round pond ~50 m across, ~80 m from the sea and freely accessible. The pond is ~1 m deep; the entrance is on its west side, where it deepens to 3–4 m (divernet: ~50 m swim from the mill-race). The pond is a special ecosystem: don't linger there. Aquatic in Agia Efimia (5 minutes' drive) guides the cave.
