Why come here

Koh Haa is a cluster of islets in the Andaman Sea, ~25 km west of Ko Lanta, with caverns you dive in warm, clear water from a day boat. In the Cathedral of Koh Haa Yai you can surface under stalactites, and in the Chimney of Koh Haa Neua you rise through a shaft full of cave sweepers towards the light. Daylight is always in reach and you dive with a guide from a dive centre; for the narrower first cave of Koh Haa Yai you need cavern training. Plan around the season: Koh Haa is closed from 15 May to 15 October.

Don't miss

  • Koh Haa Yai caves (The Cathedral): the light from the entrance below you makes the rock formations glow, and in one of the chambers you can surface under ancient stalactites hanging from the ceiling.
  • The Chimney (Koh Haa Neua): a chamber packed with bronze cave sweepers, and from there you rise through the chimney towards the light.

On a rest day

  • Old Town (Ko Lanta): The island's administrative centre on the east coast, home to most of Ko Lanta's Chao Ley, the 'sea people'.
  • West-coast beaches: Klong Dao, Pra-Ae (Long Beach) and Klong Khong, the main beaches of Ko Lanta Yai; those in the south are harder to reach.
  • Mu Ko Lanta National Park: The national park of 1990, covering part of Ko Lanta Yai and islands such as Ko Rok.

Practical info: rules, fills and emergency numbers

Emergencies

  • Chamber at Bangkok Hospital Siriroj in Phuket, 24/7 for emergencies: 081-0819000 (otherwise 076-209-347). DAN: +1 919 684 9111.

Closed or restricted

  • Season: Koh Haa is closed from 15 May to 15 October (Phoenix Divers, 2026); the dive season runs from November to April. Outside the season the wind brings rain and waves.

Fees and opening hours

  • Costs: Koh Haa lies in a national park; Phoenix Divers charges a park fee of THB 600 per diver on every trip (THB 300 for children aged 3–14, THB 400 for non-divers; undated price list). A day trip with three dives costs THB 4,800 at Phoenix Divers (less when booked online ahead; Oct 2026).

Gas and fills

  • Gas: Phoenix Divers fills nitrox 32–40% (THB 250 per tank) and runs the Nitrox course; trimix or CCR support is not on the websites: ask.

Water and season

  • Water: 29–30 °C and visibility up to 30 m from February to April; outside the season visibility can drop to 5–10 m. Mild to moderate current at the caverns; in the deep channel between Koh Haa Yai and Koh Haa Noi (deeper than 40 m) the current can run hard. The surface can be choppy.

Getting around

  • Travel: day trips from Ko Lanta (Ban Saladan at the northern tip, with ferries to Phi Phi and Koh Ngai) and in high season from Krabi; also liveaboards from Phuket (4–6 hours by boat) and from Phi Phi (1–2 hours).

Good to know

  • Read this first: Koh Haa is a group of five islets in the Andaman Sea, ~25 km west of Ko Lanta, with caverns you dive from a day boat: the chambers of Koh Haa Yai (The Cathedral) and the chimney of Koh Haa Neua (The Chimney). Daylight is in reach; no lines and no cave dives in the usual sense. The requirements come from the dive centres; the sources name no permit or compulsory guide.
