The dive

At the end of an underwater headland off Xwejni Bay two natural arches stand directly on top of each other: a smaller upper one and a larger lower one that reaches the seabed.

Profile and sections

At the end of an underwater headland off Xwejni Bay two natural arches stand directly on top of each other: a smaller upper one and a larger lower one that reaches the seabed. Small caves lie near the arch and a bigger one further out; beyond the arch you find small caverns and overhangs. There are plenty of groupers, and shoals of barracuda used to hang here; one diver reports they have been gone since 2017.

Practical: maltadives.com rates the site Advanced; divers often combine the long swim from shore with the Triple Arch and Submarine Cave along the same coast. Pin from maltadives.com (approximate).

Depth and profile
Reef top -15/-18 m · arches from -20 m (maltadives.com; Atlantis: upper arch from -27 m) · under the arches -34/-36 m · end of the reef -45 m and deeper
Configuration
All configurations; open arches
DPV: DPV possible (estimate)
A scooter shortens the ~200 m swim from shore; little gain at the arches themselves.

How to get there

Shore from Xwejni Bay (entry rated 'easy' by maltadives.com) or via 'the washing machine', a U-shaped cut in the salt pans left of the bay; then ~200 m to the reef, mostly at the surface (~10 min) or underwater (~20 min). Also by boat.
