Other people's footage, not advice: how someone else dives here says nothing about what suits your team. Dive within your training.

The dive

You glide through crystal-clear spring water over water plants, at ~15 °C (an older Parks SA figure gives 10–15 °C). It is not a cave dive, but it is a classic of the area.

Don't enter the crevices and holes in the pond floors and don't swim against the current.

Depth and profile
Three spring ponds of ~9, ~9 and ~13 m, linked by shallow channels. You drift with the current from pond 1 to pond 3 and climb out there by a ladder.

How to get there

In Ewens Ponds Conservation Park near Eight Mile Creek, ~8 km east of Port MacDonnell and ~36 km from Mount Gambier. Not a CDAA site: an open-water certification is enough. According to Parks SA's current booking page, diving is only on a guided, accredited tour; permit online beforehand, 1-hour slots. Closed every year from 1 September to 30 November, and in 2025 also for a while because of low water.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the Cave Divers Association of Australia (site list, site pages, training and visitor permit), Parks SA, Forestry SA, Wikipedia, the heritage summary of Fossil Cave, cavediving.net.au, CDG reports (caves.org.au), Divernet (2025), the City of Mount Gambier, the Royal Adelaide Hospital, DAN and the dive shops' own websites. Pins only where Wikipedia gives coordinates; the CDAA publishes none. The certification per site is an estimate from the CDAA rating; you always need that CDAA rating as well. Check everything with the CDAA.
