The dive

Devil's Throat is not a cave but a tunnel system through the coral reef, with a chamber called ‘Catedral’. Daylight is visible from most points, so some call it a cavern instead.

Deep for a recreational dive (to about -41 m): only with deep-diving experience and at least Advanced Open Water. On air, nitrogen narcosis is a real risk.
Going slowly through the tunnel can take you past the no-deco limit, and then you need decompression stops: keep moving and watch your computer.
Silt: scissor kicks stir up the bottom and visibility then drops a lot. Bring a light.
Profile and sections

Devil's Throat is not a cave but a tunnel system through the coral reef, with a chamber called ‘Catedral’. Daylight is visible from most points, so some call it a cavern instead.

It is a well-known ‘must dive’ on Cozumel, but an advanced dive at the edge of recreational limits.

Depth and profile
Entrance at about -24 m; a narrow tunnel through the reef drops at ~45° from about -30 to -38 m and opens onto the reef wall around -41 m.
Configuration
Recreational boat dive, mostly on air; a light is needed.

This is how the planner decides who in your team may dive this cave. Rules your own trip adds (organizer, a mail, the AI) show with your trip.

How to get there

Boat dive on the Punta Sur reef, the southern tip of Cozumel, in Arrecifes de Cozumel National Park. Guided only, from a boat with a park permit (CONANP); you pay the park fee per day, usually as a wristband through your operator. Cozumel Dive Center asks for at least Advanced Open Water and proof of it at check-in.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (CREER, cave-ha.com, opencaves.info, PSAI/QRSS, dive centres; Sept 2026). Map pins are Google Maps or opencaves.info locations (usually the entrance/car park); Ho-Tul, Camilo, Odyssey and Aerolito (Cozumel) have no pin, the Muyil pins are estimates. Drive times are calculated by road for each stay (OSRM, OpenStreetMap; normal traffic, spot-checked against Google Maps within about 4 min); ~ = estimate. Rules, status and fees change often — check locally.
