Why come here

In the Slanské vrchy hills between Prešov and Košice lie the Dubník opal mines: almost 5 km of flooded mine tunnels down to about -70 m, with walls covered in colourful mineral crusts. You dive here only guided by OpalDivers, the official operator, and only with a full cave certification; book well ahead. The water is 4–6 °C, so a heated drysuit is advisable. Soft sediment on the walls and ceiling ruins visibility quickly, which makes good buoyancy and personal line marking essential. Opal is state property: take nothing.

  • St. Elisabeth Cathedral: The Gothic cathedral of Košice is the largest church in Slovakia.
