The dive

Visibility is ~6 m above 20 m and ~15 m below, and more than 30 m in the cave; it is usually better in winter. The water is 14–21 °C. Wondergat is a training site for instructors and technical divers.

How to get there

~30 km from Mahikeng and 60 km from Lichtenburg (North West), at ~1,440 m altitude. Entry including parking; camping bookable online. New steps down to the water: going down and back up in full gear is hard work. 'For advanced divers': not for beginners or solo; for the cave itself a second source mentions a Cave 1 card.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the Komati Springs website, X-Ray Mag, Wikivoyage, wondergat.co.za, Wikipedia (Boesmansgat, Sterkfontein), danielskuil.co.za, Mount Carmel Safaris and DAN Southern Africa. Pins: Komati from the dive centre, Boesmansgat from Wikipedia; Wondergat has none. Certification and configurations are estimates. Open-water quarries (Miracle Waters, Bass Lake) are not caves and are left out.
