The dive
You descend along the wall of the first of two large rock pinnacles on a sand and pebble bottom and follow the wall over seagrass to the cave.

You descend along the wall of the first of two large rock pinnacles on a sand and pebble bottom and follow the wall over seagrass to the cave. On the right lies a small grotto, on the left a siphon that brings you quickly up to ~-5 m, where you come out among shoals of damselfish. Lobsters, moray eels and large conger eels live in the cracks; one diver reports at least 30 m visibility.
The cave owes its name to the salt crystals on its walls, which form as seawater slowly evaporates.
Practical: only as a guided dive with a dive centre on the island; Tremiti Diving Center offers it. The AMP rates the dive easy and one dive report calls it perhaps the least demanding dive of the trip.

By boat with an authorised dive centre on San Domino, on the east or south side of San Domino (sources differ), at the mooring field 'Scoglio dell'Elefante/Grotta del Sale' in zone C. Cave dives guided only, with a guide of at least Dive Master level, max 4 divers per guide and max 2 dives per day in this cave.
