Grouper Grotto (East End)

  • Max depth18 m (59 ft)
  • CertificationOpen water / no overhead

The dive

In summer silversides school in the canyons. The site lies in a protected grouper spawning zone: Nassau, black and tiger groupers among others, and with luck a goliath grouper.

Low-ceilinged tunnels: keep your trim and buoyancy tight and don't touch the coral; damaging coral is an offence in Cayman.
Profile and sections

Depth and profile
Mooring at ~9 m (28 ft), deepest point ~18 m (60 ft). Steep, narrow rocky passages that connect with low-ceilinged tunnels; deeper to the south soft corals and sponges.
Configuration
Shallow with daylight, but low and narrow: compact recreational gear with a torch; bulky kit fits poorly (estimate).

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): Eden Rock Diving Center's own description on PADI and the PADI site pages it contributed (with pins), the websites of Red Sail Sports (dive sites and dive policy) and Ocean Frontiers (site pages with pins, shore diving, rental), Explore Cayman, the Department of Environment (marine parks, public moorings) and the Health Services Authority (chamber). These are reef caverns, tunnels and swim-throughs with daylight in reach, from the shore in George Town and by boat on the West Wall and in East End; the requirements come from the dive centres. Certification and configurations are estimates.
