The dive

Stingrays often rest on the sand. The roof of the air bubble shines like a silver mirror.

Profile and sections
Depth and profile
A large, open cave with a sandy floor that goes back only a few metres. At the back a shelf ~3 m above the floor, and above it an air bubble that four divers can surface into (a 2008 photo at the air bubble gives 9 m). No maximum depth published.
Configuration
Short and with large openings: recreational gear with a torch; cavern training is wise for surfacing in the air bubble (estimate).

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): DOC (Department of Conservation) on the marine reserve, the websites of Dive Now (Sep 2026), Dive! Tutukaka and Global Dive, Divernet (Dec 2020), Seafriends (2007) on Taravana Cave, Ian Skipworth's underwater galleries (2008, 2013) for depths and Healthpoint on the chamber. No site has a published pin. These are boat dives into sea caves and arches with daylight in reach; Taravana and Isabella Cave are real caves. Certification and configurations are estimates.
