Other people's footage, not advice: how someone else dives here says nothing about what suits your team. Dive within your training.

The dive

The floor is covered in small arches. Sa Caleta calls it 'the Canarian cenote': clear water with a small halocline that briefly blurs the view.

Only in a flat sea without swell: otherwise you can't safely enter the cave.
Lava cave with several chambers and passages beyond daylight: the tourism board rates it 'High'. Bring a primary and a backup light and stay with your guide.
Profile and sections

The floor is covered in small arches. Sa Caleta calls it 'the Canarian cenote': clear water with a small halocline that briefly blurs the view. You see the brain-shaped sponges (including Corallistes nolitangere) the cave is named after; they normally live much deeper and are on the Canary Islands catalogue of endangered species. Also rays, Canarian lobsters, slipper lobsters and shrimps.

Per the tourism board this is one of the largest caves in the Canary Islands, formed by lava tubes.

Practical: the cave is a Natura 2000 site (ZEC Cueva marina de San Juan), so take or feed nothing.

Depth and profile
Underwater entrance at ~12 m; three passages that all rise to the surface, with air under holes in the roof. The tourism board gives 18 m, Sa Caleta at most 12 m.
Configuration
Roomy lava cave with several chambers and passages: recreational gear with a primary and backup light (estimate).
DPV: Not DPV-suitable (estimate)
Chambers and passages in a small cave — not a scooter dive.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the official dive-point pages of the Canary Islands tourism board (Hello Canary Islands: Tubo de Garachico, Cueva de Los Cerebros, La Catedral and Cueva de Matanza, with depth, level and pin), DIVE Magazine (15 Jan 2024), the websites of Sa Caleta Tenerife and Macaronesian Divers, the Spanish ministry's (MITECO) Natura 2000 panels and Diario de Avisos (May 2026) on the hyperbaric chamber. Pins come from Hello Canary Islands; the Cueva del Zorro, the Cueva de las Morenas and the Cueva de Ali Babá have no pin. These are guided boat dives into lava tubes, caverns and arches in the sea; certification and configurations are estimates. Rules change — check locally.
