Other people's footage, not advice: how someone else dives here says nothing about what suits your team. Dive within your training.

The dive

Sabak Ha is an open free-fall cenote of some 60 by 30 m; the name means 'dark water' in Maya. The top is green with algae.

Hydrogen sulphide from about -70 m: a dense cloud that takes away visibility and orientation; above it algae and 6–8 m visibility down to the halocline.
Almost vertical pit with no bottom in sight: trimix, a strict depth limit and enough deco gas are a condition here, not an option. No hyperbaric chamber confirmed within 3 hours.
Profile and sections

Sabak Ha is an open free-fall cenote of some 60 by 30 m; the name means 'dark water' in Maya. The top is green with algae. Count on 6–8 m visibility down to the halocline; one source describes clear water with 25–50 m visibility from 15 m. The pit drops almost straight down: around -64 m the halocline separates fresh from brackish water, and a hydrogen sulphide layer hangs below it.

Advanced Diver laid lines in three side passages: a blind-fish passage at -55/-60 m, the 'Black Abyss' at about -108 m and 'Sacrificios' at -57 to -64 m. Their team turned at -108 m. A team from the region reached -120 m in September 2025, with about 130 min of deco. The bottom has not been found.

Depth and profile
Deepest cenote in Yucatán: -120 m reached (Sept 2025), earlier reports to about -140 m; halocline around -64 m; side passages at -55 to -65 m and -85 to -110 m
Configuration
Backmount or sidemount; the 'Sacrificios' passage is only passed in sidemount near its end. CCR suits the depth, but there is no local support (oxygen, sorb).
Gas
Trimix from 40 m (131 ft)

How to get there

Municipality of Sacalum, about 70 km south of Mérida: the road to Muna, through Abalá and past hacienda Mucuyché, 6 km further turn left at the Yunkú junction and then 2 km of dirt road east. Open pit with a free fall of about 12 m to the water; gear goes down on ropes. No ticket desk; arrange through your guide.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Cenoteando/UNAM, showcaves.com, Yucatán Today, yucatan.travel, Mexico Desconocido, Posta, Diario de Yucatán, Advanced Diver Magazine, dive centres in Mérida; Oct 2026).
