The dive

Kankirixché is a semi-open cenote with a collapsed ceiling: through a hole some 90 m across, the light falls in fans on the floor, among the roots of the trees above.

Profile and sections

Practical: one of the most popular dive cenotes around Mérida. Yucatán Today lists it as a starter site (in the cavern) and as a dive for the experienced.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Cenoteando/UNAM, showcaves.com, Yucatán Today, yucatan.travel, Mexico Desconocido, Posta, Diario de Yucatán, Advanced Diver Magazine, dive centres in Mérida; Oct 2026). Pins from the Cenoteando repository, Sabak Ha from Google Maps; depths as the dive centre or the press give them, and they differ per source. Rules, fees and openings change — check locally.
