The dive

Through a hole in the reef you sink into a dark, vertical chimney that takes you down until it opens into The Fireplace, a large opening that looks out into the deep blue.

You descend inside a tunnel from 5 to 28 m, deeper than the 18 m of an Open Water certification: equalise and keep your descent under control.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): Niue Tourism's blog (April 2025), the Niue Pocket Guide (updated July 2026), PADI's site page (Dome Cave), Scuba Diving magazine (August 2025), Smartraveller (travel advice for Niue), Healthpoint on the chamber in Auckland and DAN Alert Diver (2017) on an evacuation from the South Pacific. Niue Blue's own website could not be opened. No source gives coordinates for the caves. These are guided boat dives into sea caves with the island's only dive operator. Certification and configurations are estimates.
