The dive

The deep part lies in dim light, like a Gothic cathedral; that is where the name 'spooky' comes from. The channel is an old river gorge (once a waterfall) linking the lagoon to the outer reef.

Some swim-throughs have no exit: stay close to your guide. The tiny swim-through at the mouth exits onto the wall at ~61 m (200 ft), far beyond recreational limits.

Depth and profile
Plateau at ~6 m (20 ft), then swim-throughs and channels of ~7–15 m (25–50 ft). In the channel itself to ~29 m (95 ft), up to 15 m wide in places; the walls close in towards the top to a gap of ~1.5 m. Outside the mouth a wall to ~34 m (110 ft).
Configuration
A gorge with little light and short swim-throughs: recreational gear with a torch (estimate).

How to get there

Off Sandy Bay, close to Lawson Rock on the north coast. Go by boat and with a guide, who judges whether visibility is good enough; don't swim on the surface because of boat traffic.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the websites of Splash Inn Dive Resort, Roatan Divers, Sun Divers and CoCo View Resort, the Roatan Marine Park (voluntary fee), Anthony's Key Resort on the chamber, El Heraldo (Feb 2026) on the 911 number and the PADI blog (May 2023) as support. No site has a published pin. These are guided boat dives into reef caverns, tunnels, swim-throughs and crevices with daylight in reach; the requirements come from the dive centres. Certification and configurations are estimates.
