The dive

Crystal-clear water flows from a small cave into the lake of Kırkgöz. Inside lies 'The Stadium', the largest water-filled room the 1995 team had ever seen, and under water there are karst formations and historical remains.

You may not dive here without a permit from the governorship: in 1995 the Jandarma stopped the team until the permit was issued.
The water clouds quickly, even from moving fish. In 'The Stadium' the floor lies more than 20 m below the deco ceiling: the 1995 team did not explore the upper part.
Profile and sections

Crystal-clear water flows from a small cave into the lake of Kırkgöz. Inside lies 'The Stadium', the largest water-filled room the 1995 team had ever seen, and under water there are karst formations and historical remains. An endemic little fish lives in the cave, the Antalya Pseudophoxinus.

A Yugoslav team had earlier reached 40 m. In 1995 Karstdive 95 surveyed more than 800 m of passages; Kırkgöz II narrows to an impassable crevice. In 2022 a team from Akdeniz University under Prof. Mehmet Gökoğlu dived four of its five dive points. The water flows on to the Düden and so to the sea.

Practical: there is no pin and no dive centre that dives here.

Depth and profile
Over 800 m of passages surveyed (1995); a ~200 m passage drops past 60 m to a restriction, a later dive went deeper than 80 m. 'The Stadium' is a water-filled room over 100 by 100 m and more than 50 m high. In 2022 a team reached ~50 m and saw the cave continue.
Configuration
Expedition dive on trimix with decompression (estimate).
Gas

How to get there

Spring with a lake at Kırkgöz (Döşemealtı), north-west of Antalya. Protected archaeological site: only with permission from the Antalya governorship (Antalya Valiliği). In 1995 and 2022 it was dived only for research.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the dive centres' websites (Akdeniz Yunus Diving, Antalya Scuba Diving, Blue Team Diving), the Göcek and Fethiye dive guide (with GPS for Afkule), explorelycia.com, limancepte.com and medgulets.com on the Blue Cave near Kaputaş, denizde.com.tr, PADI's pages on Alanya and Fethiye and a report on taucher.net (2004) on Rambo, hepsiburada.com (Jan 2022), the reports of the Karstdive 95 expedition (gue.com and InDEPTH), İHA (Dec 2022) on Kırkgöz, Finike municipality and the Antalya cultural inventory (Oct 2025) on the Suluin, Hürriyet Daily News (2017) on Kekova and the TSSF chamber list (as of June 2021). Only Afkule has a published pin. Certification and configurations are estimates. The open part is sea caves with a dive centre; the freshwater caves near Antalya and Finike are permit-only or closed.
