The dive

A cenote ('casimba') on the Bay of Pigs, filmed in 2016. Little is published about it. Practical: a visiting cave diver recommends a dive around noon because of the light beams.

Cuban law: guided cavern diving only (daylight, 40 m, 60 m of penetration, no deco) after approval by the Comisión Nacional de la Náutica; the ~90 m cavern goes beyond that.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the Cuban diving regulation Resolución 48/2014 (FAOLEX), showcaves.com, dive.site, Wikipedia, Prensa Latina (2024), CubaPLUS, a Varadero travel guide, a Scubaverse report on the caves near Gibara (2015), an Undercurrent report on Punta Francés (1999), the Marina Marlin Cayo Largo page, the UK FCDO and US State Department travel advice, AP and Al Jazeera (fuel and power, 2026), Rough Guides (Isla de la Juventud). Only Cueva de los Peces has a pin (showcaves). Diving in Cuba is always guided and the law allows no more than cavern diving; check everything with the dive centre.
