The dive

Clear bluish water of ~24 °C, chambers with stalactites up to ~2 m and orange formations, blind fish and a large eel. According to Cuban sources this is the largest flooded cave in the country.

Fine silt on the floor: visibility collapses at the slightest movement and fins get caught in it; the formations break at a light touch.
Cuban law: guided cavern diving only (daylight, 40 m, 60 m of penetration, no deco) after approval by the Comisión Nacional de la Náutica. In 2015 the guide took cave divers further in; ask beforehand whether that is still possible and allowed.
Profile and sections

Clear bluish water of ~24 °C, chambers with stalactites up to ~2 m and orange formations, blind fish and a large eel.

According to Cuban sources this is the largest flooded cave in the country. Czech divers first explored it in 1982.

Practical: Eagle Ray Dive Centre (Guardalavaca) guided British divers here in 2015: Advanced minimum for the light zone near the entrances, only certified cave divers further in. Whether that centre still dives it is not confirmed.

Depth and profile
Pool of ~30 × 15 m, bottom at 6–8 m (CubaPLUS: 7 m); inside the cave on average ~15 m and at most ~18 m. More than 3,000 m of passage surveyed (CubaPLUS: ~4 km) from three entrances, no end found anywhere; the main passages run east-west.
Configuration
Chambers the size of a bungalow: backmount or sidemount. Bring your own cave gear; the centre only has gear for its instructors.
DPV: Not DPV-suitable (estimate)
Silt and fragile formations, and a 3 km carry: no scooter.

How to get there

In the Caletones ecological reserve on the north coast of Holguín, ~70 km from Guardalavaca. From the road it is a walk of over 3 km across broken karst with no path (the guide wants no casual visitors); in 2015 the gear went by mule. Ring Hole, a second entrance in the same karst, is ~1 km from the road. Only with the local guide through a dive centre from Guardalavaca.

Certification requirements, configurations and trimix depths are estimates for planning. Always check them locally and dive within your training. Compiled from web research (Oct 2026): the Cuban diving regulation Resolución 48/2014 (FAOLEX), showcaves.com, dive.site, Wikipedia, Prensa Latina (2024), CubaPLUS, a Varadero travel guide, a Scubaverse report on the caves near Gibara (2015), an Undercurrent report on Punta Francés (1999), the Marina Marlin Cayo Largo page, the UK FCDO and US State Department travel advice, AP and Al Jazeera (fuel and power, 2026), Rough Guides (Isla de la Juventud). Only Cueva de los Peces has a pin (showcaves). Diving in Cuba is always guided and the law allows no more than cavern diving; check everything with the dive centre.
